Nice Spice Gingerbread For The Holidays
by
Lesruba Designs
Gingerbread, gingerbread men
and gingerbread houses are all delicious traditions
of the holiday Christmas season. If you're looking
for a holiday treat that will make your house
smell wonderful and warm, try this recipe for
spice gingerbread.
You'll need:
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ginger
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup pure cane syrup
2 1/2 cup flour
1 cup hot water
Mix the salt, soda, ginger, cinnamon, allspice,
nutmeg, cloves and butter together well. Then
slowly blend in the sugar. Beat in the egg. Mix
in the flour and syrup and then add the hot water
a small amount at a time. When all ingredients
are well mixed pour the batter into a 9 x 9 x
2" pan, greased and floured.
Place in a preheated 350 F degree oven for 45-55
minutes. Do the toothpick test to make sure it's
done, placing a toothpick in the center and seeing
if it comes out clean.
If you're bringing this holiday baked good to a holiday brunch or christmas party or serving it at your own holiday party wait until the gingerbread is completely cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar for a finished look - place powdered sugar in a strainer and dust the sugar back and forth covering the gingerbread.
This gingerbread is especially yummy with a fresh cup of coffee or tea, topped with whipped cream, or eaten straight out of the pan on a cold winter day.
